ABSTRACT

In the world history of railway building, no dine of communication by rail has involved more international controversies, caused more intense international rivalry and proved more tragic in its results than the Chinese Eastern Railway. The modern history of Manchuria started with the construction of the Chinese Eastern Railway, although it is true that the laying of the Peking-Mukden Line has also contributed to the opening up of the country. The slow development of colonization in the Far East was due to the lack of communication in Russian Asia before the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway. The Sino-Japanese War of 1895 ended in China’s ignominious defeat. The building of the Trans-Siberian Railway to Vladivostok terminus struck some serious difficulties.
