ABSTRACT

Similar to the relationship between femininity and motherhood, male infertility can negatively impact self-perception and one's sense of masculinity. While a male's ability to reproduce is less affected by aging, heredity and injury can play a role. Research suggests that men are less likely to conflate masculinity and gender identity with an inability to reproduce. However, male sterility still has psychological and relational impacts. Because his partner may experience infertility quite differently, it may exacerbate each partner's struggle. In this chapter, we explore the impacts of male infertility.
