ABSTRACT
In this chapter, complex sentences are classified into three types based on the semantic relationship between the clauses: causal, coordinate, and adversative. It also explains why the author proposes a tripartite system instead of a dichotomy, in which complex sentences are categorized into two types: coordinate and subordinate.
