ABSTRACT
IN GENERAL, THE AIM OF THIS BOOK is to introduce the reader to the exciting and developing discipline of Christian spirituality. In doing so, the aim is also to reshape some of the classical approaches to Christian spirituality (which are more focused on theology and the history of Christian spirituality), to develop a stronger link between spirituality and disciplines in the human sciences such as philosophy, psychology, history, sociology, phenomenology, hermeneutics, and anthropology. This is of course not intended to dismiss the key contribution that theology and the history of Christian spirituality have made in volumes that are already available to the reader.
