ABSTRACT

The first chapter of the book gives an introduction to the practical and legal landscape of the book. It explains that the investigatory power of sports organisations may generally be limited. The author points out that the extent of restrictions is predominantly defined by the balancing process between the interest of sports organisations in the protection of the integrity of sport, the welfare of sportspersons and the rights of the investigated person. The lawfulness of the application of coercive measures in sport must therefore generally be examined in consideration of all of the competing interests at stake.
