Retirement is a major milestone in anyone’s life and early planning will help with the transition into new circumstances and situations. In this final chapter we consider some of the key takeaways for the retirement coach from this detailed look at how to support a retiree or potential retiree on their journey of change. From a coaching perspective, there are several things for the retirement coach to know about and understand to help clients on that journey towards a different life post-employment. Not only does the coach need to understand and be able to practise the skills of effective coaching, in an ethical and legal way, but also the coach needs to know something of the context of retirement, and how that is changing because of external factors. These factors include changing economic conditions, the impact of Covid-19 on peoples’ preferences to remain in work, an aging workforce, and people living much longer.
