ABSTRACT

No matter the coaching specialism being practised, the coach should always use ethical behaviours and ensure that all services and guidance being offered remains within the law. Whilst we do not expect a retirement coach to be a legal expert, there is an expectation that they will know and understand relevant legislation that affects their role and the practices they use. The different professional coaching bodies offer a range of examples of Codes of Ethics which can be a useful first port of call for information and guidance on what to do with this issue. In this chapter we explore the role of ethics in retirement coaching and the legal framework of retirement which may impact retirement decisions. We also consider the extent to which the retirement coach needs to have knowledge and skills around such issues.
