ABSTRACT

Given recent health issues for many during the global pandemic, coupled with people living longer and yet facing health issues in some cases, it has become increasingly important for all employees, no matter their age, to pay attention to their health and well-being. Most employers do pay attention to this matter for their staff, encouraging them to get involved in programmes promoting good health, having regular check-ups, and so on. For those nearing or at retirement age then this becomes very important. Ill health can stop many older people pursing the lifestyle they seek once they are retired. Yet health and well-being in retirement are not only just about physical actions but also about the mental challenges which might lie ahead. This chapter reviews approaches which can be taken by employers to encourage staff to think about such matters before they leave employment, as well as at the end point of their career, when the retirement coach may have to provide support of this kind.
