ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the existing literature on the topic, providing an overview of the theories, methods and empirical studies related to trust, social capital and institutional resources in two sections. The first section describes in detail the trust-related theories and their classification. The second section emphasizes the relationship between social capital and generalized trust. Having put forward the theoretical significance of multidimensionally measuring and analyzing the impact of social capital on generalized trust, this chapter ends with an introduction of the utility space theory of social capital and analyzes, through the lens of institutionalized structural resources, the possible moderating effect on the relationship between social capital and generalized trust.
