Junior scientists are often the most excited when it comes to making a difference, but first they have to build their reputations as scientists and figure out how the world works. This how-to chapter offers practical advice on how to gain experience and develop connections with the world outside the research lab, with a particular focus on starting at the local community level and focusing on low-risk, high-reward outcomes.
