ABSTRACT
This chapter explains the causes and process of the formation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, providing the historical background of the separatist tendencies of the region, the course of the armed conflict in the 1990s, and the long-standing negotiation process that was to result in the final determination of the status of Transnistria. In addition, the author characterized the region's position in the parent state's strategic documents.
