ABSTRACT
This chapter explains the causes and process of the formation of the Nagorno–Karabakh Republic, providing the historical background of the separatist tendencies of the region, the course of the armed conflict in the 1990s, and the long-standing negotiation process that was to result in the final determination of the status of Nagorno–Karabakh. The author also analyzed the course and implications of the 2020 war. In addition, the author has tried to analyze the impact of the 2022 Russian aggression against Ukraine on the situation in Nagorno–Karabakh. Finally, the issue of the region was presented in the strategic documents of the parent state and the patron.
