ABSTRACT

Complications in giving up the breast can result in feelings of deprivation later in life. Potty training inspires a sense of prohibition, which can evolve throughout life into a position of insubordination, rebellion, and rage, or, on the contrary, into a blind obedience. The link between pleasure and forbiddance takes a life of its own when the transgression itself is a source of pleasure. Can letting go occur retroactively? It is never too late to give up pleasurable objects without guilt and blame on the one hand, and without clinging on the other hand. The hardest weaning of all is from the illusion that one was deprived and banned.
