ABSTRACT

This paper considers the analyst-analysand relationship and its setting as an ideal space for the symbolization of the unconscious. This symbolization is understood as the dramatization, actualization, and verbalization of the analysand’s internal object relations which have been brought to the present of the therapeutic situation. The evolution of the quality of the symbol in parallel with the establishment, evolution, and interpretation of the transference is also addressed. Moreover, fluctuations in the structure of any symbolic formation are related to oscillations between insight and resistance. The notion of false symbols is connected with the incessant interaction between integration and splitting of the symbol and diabolon, between truth and lie.
