ABSTRACT

Eating regularly is a key procedure of enhanced cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT-E) as it is the foundation on which other changes are built. The procedure includes: (1) eating at regular intervals throughout the day (not greater than four hours apart), planning three meals plus two or three snacks to be eaten at set times; (2) not eating in between. As this chapter explains, regular eating provides structure to eating habits and to the day, addresses delayed eating, interrupts the cycle of binge eating and dietary restriction and, in those who are low weight, improves gastric function and reduces the early sense of fullness.
