ABSTRACT

The second part of Step One is dedicated to weighing up the pros and cons of changing. This will include addressing weight regain (if indicated). The goal of enhanced cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT-E) is that young patients decide to regain weight rather than having this decision imposed upon them. This process requires the application of the following steps, which are addressed in a series of consecutive sessions: (1) focusing on the present by creating a current pros-and-cons-of-change table; (2) focusing on the future by creating a future pros-and-cons-of-change table; (3) creating a third table detailing their conclusions; and (4) “taking the plunge.” How this procedure is implemented and the importance of their decision to regain weight is discussed in this chapter.
