ABSTRACT

The Excessive Exercising module is indicated for the young person using this behaviour to control shape and weight. The goal of the module is that the young person decides to interrupt excessive exercising, after having evaluated the pros and cons with the therapist, rather than having the decision thrust upon them. The chapter explains why it is important to stop exercising excessively and how this can be achieved using enhanced cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT-E) strategies and procedures. These include self-monitoring in real time, doing healthy exercising, ways to tackle the urge to exercise and managing events and emotions that trigger exercising.
