ABSTRACT

Values are at the core of an organization's culture. When an organization changes direction, the present values and culture may not serve the future of the organization well. Transforming organizations’ enacted values and cultures requires a disciplined and structured approach. Leaders need to formulate aspirations for future enacted values and culture, make the right interventions to make change happen, and measure the enacted values and culture to diagnose the starting point and measure the change progress. This approach is systemized through the AIM method that is designed to develop values-based organizational culture fit for purpose. The AIM method emphasizes aligning values and behavior and work practices and is intended to increase leaders’ and employees’ consciousness about their values and the decisions they make. This chapter provides the theoretical underpinning for the AIM method and details the method, process, and tools for how leaders can make interventions to develop and change a values-based organizational culture.
