ABSTRACT

Findings from a previous experimental study on live music trade between the EU French Caribbean and Anglophone CARIFORUM revealed that current trade facilitation measures for interregional trade in Caribbean live music are not adequately working. Considering this issue, this chapter examines whether Caribbean leadership should take inspiration from South Korea’s approach to the global commercialisation of its live music. South Korea’s support-measures for the export of their K-Pop live music are framed within their foreign policy agenda, and so, these measures receive significant funding from the government. This chapter, therefore, reflects on whether this South Korean approach is applicable to both South-South and North-South interregional trade in Caribbean live music services. It also assesses the usefulness of integrating sustainable development initiatives with an export strategy for the development of North-South interregional trade in Caribbean live music. Furthermore, this chapter also explores the role that the World Trade Organization can play in supporting trade facilitation measures for the development of international trade in Caribbean live music.
