ABSTRACT

Chapter 8 states that partnership and team-building are extensive in destinations because tourism is such a fertile field for partnerships, cooperation, and collaborations of all types. This is because it is unusual for one company, government agency, or other type of organization to control all the stages in the tourism value chain, whereas visitors expect destination offers to be integrated (or seamless). Destination partnerships and team-building are defined and their benefits are identified. Potential destination partners and ways to identify them are described. Barriers and challenges to partnering are revealed. Destination partnership types are identified as are the ingredients of successful partnerships. Destination team-building is reviewed in detail. The chapter closes with the steps required for effective partnering and team-building.
