ABSTRACT

Chapter 10 explains that visitor management is not a traditional role for DMOs to play. DMOs historically were just concerned with bringing visitors to destinations, and other parties looked after guests when they arrived. The chapter begins by defining visitor management and explains the ADVICE model. The reasons for and benefits from visitor management are detailed. Next, the chapter explains all components of a visitor management program. Visitor expectations, experiences, enjoyment, and satisfaction are considered next as a key outcome of the visitor management role. The yield management concept for destinations is described. The chapter ends by suggesting the steps for effective visitor management.
