ABSTRACT
Destination leadership, coordination, and governance is a crucial role of destination management. DMOs must be the leaders for the tourism sector, and Chapter 6 describes their leadership functions. The three concepts of leadership, coordination, and governance are defined, and the chapter reviews each in detail. Various leadership styles are profiled and the better ones for DMOs are pinpointed. CSR and ethical leadership are discussed next. Chapter 6 continues by discussing DMO organizational structures, boards, and bylaws. Working with boards of directors is reviewed in detail. DMO funding and effectiveness measurement are the next topics. Risk management is reviewed. The steps for effective destination leadership, coordination, and governance are outlined.
