ABSTRACT
This chapter is to introduce the research purpose and significance of the historical development of the Chinese language and the related perspectives and methodology are described as well. In this context, three points that are worthy of being noted in studying the history of the Chinese language are articulated, followed by eight methods in studying the history of the Chinese language.
