Grounded basis of studying the history of the Chinese language

The chapter describes the grounded basis of studying the history of the Chinese language. In so doing, previous scholarships are firstly introduced, which include exemplified studies on vocabulary and lexical meaning, studies on the fonts and meaning of words and studies on the sound of characters. Then, words borrowed from foreign languages and the so-called relative languages are fully discussed. Modern Chinese dialects are finally summarized.
