ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 delves into the significance of a critical perspective for promoting justice in qualitative research. It explores how a critical lens can be applied to our daily lives and integrated into qualitative inquiry practices. The chapter underscores the vital role of self-awareness and reflection in developing a critical perspective. Drawing from the life-changing stories of Patti Lather, Tineke Abma and Imene Zoulikha Kassous and Zyra Evangelista, it showcases the transformative impact of being heard and seen in qualitative inquiry. These narratives shed light on researcher identities, knowledge validity and power dynamics. The chapter also highlights the narratives and arts-based research insights and approaches in amplifying marginalized voices and fostering social, economic and environmental change. By seeking a critical perspective, researchers can cultivate justice-centered research practices and navigate power dynamics in their work.
