ABSTRACT

Off-site manufacture of building elements, rooms or whole buildings becomes more attractive as traditional construction gets more expensive and demand outstrips supply. This chapter provides some key details of CLT construction and steel panelised construction. This chapter illustrates some good practice CLT detailing used on construction projects. Thermal insulation must be coordinated around the fire barrier and damp-proof course, and installed tightly up against it with no gaps. Continuous insulation and airtightness should be achieved at the roof and wall junction. An airtight breather membrane should be taped at junctions and coordinated with a fire-rated cavity barrier. Flat roof is best for insulated steel panel construction. The parapet is built of a small panel providing a continuous insulation layer at the roof junction.
