ABSTRACT

Bullying is notoriously the province of those who feel themselves to be despised and persecuted. Most bullies have themselves been bullied. Education systems bully children who fail by constantly reminding them of the competitive nature of their world, by grading and by failing them; in competition only a few can win, the majority lose. Some teachers even bully those children who irritate them or remind them of their own failures. Adults, in particular teachers, get driven into bullying the young just because they themselves feel bullied. Perhaps the most worrying bullying of all is that done by young children to their immature parents who have inadequate ideas about the needs of the young. Bullies will usually find a considerable amount of support for their activities from their fellows. Girls are still aware that to be bullying and destructive has novelty value; they are also aware that this is not the only way that they want to be.
