ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the political economy of development and environment and ecology protection measures during the post-independence period, that is, from 1947 to 2020. This chapter details how the political economy of post-independence India has failed to address both development and environment-related issues due to popular vote bank politics. Essentially, this chapter is divided into four sections. The second section analyses the political economy and its development initiatives. The third section analyses the political economy and environmental impact, and the last section offers the concluding observations.
