ABSTRACT

In Islām, followers are advised to seek comfort and protection in Alláh from a range of harms that include physical, psychological, and spiritual threats. This protection is invoked by reciting specific Qur’ânic verses and the Prophet's (ﷺ) prescribed supplications. Central to Islām is the emphasis on preventing and addressing spiritual challenges through the principles of Islāmic monotheism (tawheed) and sole reliance on God (tawakkul). This chapter delves into these principles, spotlighting the paramount importance of supplications (dua’h) to Alláh and the act of remembering Him (adhkaar). Such remembrance is presented as a crucial spiritual tool against various distresses, particularly psychological ones. The chapter further elaborates on the profound benefits of adhkaar, positing it as an essential preventive measure aligning with therapeutic practices.
