ABSTRACT

This chapter emphasises the significance of ruqyah-ash-Shar’iah as a sunnah-based intervention for addressing various afflictions, encompassing spiritual, psychological, and physical issues. The chapter further distinguishes between permissible (ruqyah-ash-Shar’iah) and impermissible ruqyah (ruqyah-ash-shirkiyyah) and presents supporting evidence based on the Qur’an and Sunnah. It also highlights the conditions of ruqyah and provides an explanation of the ruqyah process. The chapter contextualises the role of Islāmic psychotherapists and Muslim mental health practitioners in applying ruqyah as a spiritual intervention as part of a holistic approach to therapy. The chapter utilises a real-life case study to demonstrate how ruqyah-ash-Shar’iah was employed as a part of a comprehensive therapeutic plan.
