ABSTRACT

Globally, mental health awareness within various sectors of Muslim communities is on the rise. This awareness is driving a pivotal shift in counselling and psychotherapy approaches to align more closely with Islamic beliefs. Professionals, especially those within the Muslim community practicing under Western paradigms, advocate for the integration of faith-based practices in therapeutic methods. This chapter focuses on the unique role of Islamic psychotherapists and Muslim mental health professionals in promoting an encompassing approach which will result in holistic healing. Emphasising the importance of understanding the Muslim client in depth, the chapter underscores the value of culturally sensitive assessments, diagnoses, and treatments for effective holistic care.
