ABSTRACT
This chapter will demonstrate the relevance of this history to educational practice today. It will review the current research on the impact of education in the performing arts on achievement and school culture, and it will explore the rapidly expanding body of research on cognition. It will use stories from the field to illustrate the positive impact of the incorporation of the arts into all aspects of education, including assessment of learning.
