ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by examining the ‘anatomy’ of the case study, how each part of the case is developed and the purpose behind each part of the case. The chapter then goes on to explore seven points that students might wish to consider when preparing for a case. To help make sense of each ‘consideration’, a full case study is included to provide an illustration. At the end of this chapter, students should be aware of the key ingredients of an effective case experience, and the roles that they should adopt to achieve the best learning experience from a case session. Students will also have the tools to deconstruct and analyse the case as part of their preparation for class discussion, working through several different approaches to case preparation.
