ABSTRACT

Any case study delivered in a classroom context ought to be contributing something new to student learning. But how do students capture this, evaluate its impact, and ensure this learning is ‘stored’ in such a way that enables them to reutilise the learning derived from the case in future experiences? At the heart of a case study is a story and, as one commentator once stated, “we don’t listen to stories, we join in,” and in accompanying the players of that story we meet many sides of ourselves. This chapter examines the heart of the case discussion process by considering its overall contribution to student learning.
