ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the development of a research proposal based on the Maqasid Methodology. The research proposal will make use of the five overlapping and interconnected Maqasid Methodology steps: (1) Purpose, (2) Cycles of Reflection, (3) Framework, (4) Critical Studies of Literature and Reality and (5) Formative Theories and Principles. The rationale for using this approach is based on the notion that it provides a holistic framework for seeking revelational guidance by performing continuous cycles of reflections during the research process. In Islāmic psychology, the broad focus of the research is to guide man to divine revelation and teachings of Islām and embrace the presence of Allāh, the Almighty, taking into account the components of the Maqasid al-Shari’ah (the Higher Objectives of Islāmic law).
