ABSTRACT

Co-teaching is a practice that partners a general education teacher and a special education teacher in the same classroom sharing responsibility for delivering content instruction and SDI. This classroom arrangement is intended to benefit students with IEPs by giving them access to the general education curriculum and the support necessary to be successful. Teachers in this setting should discuss classroom expectations and divide responsibilities according to role and ability. This chapter describes several high-impact classroom teaching structures: parallel teaching, alternate teaching, and station teaching. Each of these structures makes effective use of two teachers in the classroom. The description of each structure includes specific applications and logistical considerations.
