ABSTRACT

Teaching is a combination of activities engaged in by the teacher and his pupils. Successful teaching requires careful planning based on certain basic principles that have been tried out over the years. This chapter discusses the different plans that are common to teaching for the teacher to achieve success in all or nearly all his lessons: the syllabus, the scheme of work and lesson plans. Certain elements in the teaching-learning process depend on the syllabus. Examinations are used to assess pupils. Examinations are usually drawn to cover only topics in the syllabus. When drawing up the syllabus, subjects in the curriculum are sometimes treated relative to each other. Mathematics and English may be given priority over other subjects.
