ABSTRACT

One of the important factors in learning is the environment. Great educators like Comenius, Dewey and Tyler underline the importance that environment plays in the education of the child. The teacher should make it his business to create a classroom environment that will foster the educational development of his pupils. The physical environment of the classroom must be clean and sanitary. The most popular seating arrangement in most classrooms is one in which children sit in rows facing the teacher and the blackboard. This type of seating arrangement appears to be very convenient for formal teaching. The pattern of seating arrangement should be determined by the kind of classroom activity that is taking place, and also the teaching strategy the teacher wants to employ. The teacher's authority also depends on the way he carries out the various classroom routines of his class.
