ABSTRACT

The final chapter of this book reviews its central arguments and key contributions to existing research on sports fandom. It considers the conceptual and theoretical implications of the findings and focuses on fan typologies and LGBT-themed chanting. It outlines some important considerations for future research, particularly the importance of football’s global challenges, LGBT fans’ consumption of sport, the sociological significance of LGBT Fan Groups in other sports, the impact of discrimination and abuse on social media, and the need for future projects to focus on the experiences of ethnically diverse individuals. Some potential policy implications are acknowledged before some closing remarks.
