ABSTRACT

The completion of the cycle in which the infant becomes O—that is, accepts the personalness of one’s Fate without denial—is the achievement of transcendence: namely, becoming a more evolved self and entering the transcendent position: that is, becoming a mystic. The following is a brief excerpt from a session with an analytic patient: In the beginning of the dream I’m at schule with my father. The patient’s associations: The pilgrimage is only a fraction of our concerns. Aesthetics, perhaps the most satisfying of the vertices, constitutes the organic, living, changing/unchanging template of O and of all O’s formless forms moving across an inner galactic landscape in a dazzling infinitude of discrete patterns that are both implicitly intricate and holistic—transiently, seductively revealing themselves for precious half-moments only to disappear once again into their numinous, mystical vapour.
