ABSTRACT

Palestinians argue that Israel has taken some actions in recent months that pre-judge issues reserved for permanent status negotiations. As Israelis and Palestinians move to re-energize their negotiations, it is imperative that the international community do its share to support this effort and to recognize that prosperity is a parent to peace. For decades, the United States has been deeply engaged in the pursuit of a comprehensive Middle East peace. President Clinton – like his predecessors – has considered this to be a top priority and has worked hard to support the efforts of the parties to reach that goal. For Palestinians, it is the promise of an end to decades of strife.
