ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on introducing the present book's methodology, hypotheses, and organisation. Hence, Chapter 1 presents some preliminary considerations such as some background to the analysis of Irish masculinity and how it's influenced and rooted in a mythological and traditional depiction of heroes; why the use of interdisciplinary methodologies can benefit one's research by providing not only quantitative but also qualitative results; and the definition of some terminology that has been deemed important throughout the book such as “hegemonic masculinity,” “Irishness,” or other corpus studies’ terms such as “cluster,” “frequency lists,” or “normalisation.”
