Introduction

The introduction of the book sets the stage while providing the necessary background details for answering crucial questions regarding the FATA insurgency including why the Taliban insurgency started, how it became so powerful and what explains its ultimate demise. While answering these questions, a concise description of various phases of the insurgency is given. The recent developments in the FATA including the formal assimilation of this region into main territory of the Pakistani state, emergence of a rights-based social movement known as Pashtun Tahafaz Movement and revival of the TTP is also touched upon. This section also sheds light on the research methodology followed in writing of this book.
