ABSTRACT

This chapter offers a novel perspective on Phenomenology that focuses on its Evo-Devo, using Paleoanthropology to offer a much wider perspective from which to understand Human Beings. It presents a new ontology that is termed here Prephenomenology. Its clinical relevance is explained. The Bio-Psycho-Social Self has more explanatory power than Mind and is employed here. It paints with much wider brushstrokes that reach far into the past. We have Pre-technical processes of Evo-Devo that goes back as far as 3,000,000 ya, Phenomenology itself that is dated to the advent of the Upper Paleolithic Package ca. 50,000 ya and, finally, the advent of Post-technical processes 9,000 ya. This refers to Postphenomenology again, dating it back much further than is currently done. Evo-Devo prefigured Postphenomenology in the evolution of the Brain-Mind. This is all very new language, and it cannot be dealt with in this short summary. What we are seeing is a shift from a relatively slow, biological process of Evo-Devo to a blindingly fast process of technology-based Evo-Devo in the world of Postphenomenology. It is also necessary to consider two other ways of categorizing Mind: The advent of Theory of Mind (ToM) and Intentionality.
