ABSTRACT

This chapter brings together the insights from the empirical analysis to compare the differences and similarities between the Scottish and Welsh Governments in their relations with the UK Government and their influence on central policy- and decision-making. It thereby reflects on the organisation of intergovernmental relations, the constellations fostering cooperation and conflict, and their ability to influence decisions of the centre. Considering the different powers, the size of population, landmass and economies, and especially Scotland's drive towards independence, Wales is typically seen as less powerful and influential. However, both cases do not vary as strongly as one might expect from the outset.
