ABSTRACT

This chapter concerns bamboo basket-ware used in everyday utensils, as shown by the following situations: weaving an open-work basket; bamboo drying rack for paper; two craftsmen working bamboo; weaving a bamboo fan; making paper fans; weaving the hull of a boat; weaving a chicken coop; weaving a partition or rack; weaving a tray-cover with wire; collecting water cabbage; watering cabbages (using a basket to sprinkle the water); boat for crossing a river ferry (“đò ngang”); collecting lotus flowers (in a woven bamboo boat); carrying a basket boat (over the head); boating, using short, curved oars; bamboo basket-work oar; pressing cooked rice in a flexible bamboo flake (“nắm cơm”); woven bamboo rack or trellis (“cánh liếp”); bamboo trellis fan (“quạt vỉ”).
