ABSTRACT
This chapter provides some background information about autism, including a brief history of autism up to more recent developments in the field of autism and neurodiversity. Common autistic traits are discussed as well as diagnosis. There is an exploration of the different presentations of autism, including the more subtle presentations of autism, often mostly associated with females. Reasons why females have been missed are also explored. Common stereotypes relating to autism are also investigated and frequently asked questions about autism are explored.
