Introduction

This chapter introduces the public disputes surrounding the development of liquefied natural gas projects in British Columbia, Canada. It explicates why these debates provide an important case for examining the ongoing political contests in Canada over extractivism. It then provides a brief chronology of the case’s major milestones from late 2011 to mid-2017, followed by an overview of the case study’s methodology and the principal arguments of subsequent chapters.
