War and Violence

This chapter analyzes religions with regard to violence and war. Religions hold complex views toward the appropriate place of violence. While religions tend to encourage peaceful relations at the individual and societal level, religions may also condone violence and warfare under certain circumstances. The case study looks into the conflicting views held by Jews with regard to the possession of nuclear weapons by the state of Israel.
