ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 provides a scenario focused on the topic of increasing teacher retention. The question asked is, how can our school/district increase teacher retention at the elementary level? Using the appreciative inquiry (AI) 4-D cycle as the model to bring about change and make decisions, the emphasis is on the "how" with step-by-step solutions detailed. The scenario is based on the experiences of approximately 130 teachers and administrators involved in a two-day AI event or meeting summit. The steps in the 4-D cycle are described in detail. Sample questions are used to guide discussions with selected responses made by participants. Included is the co-created action plan. The chapter closes with a summary of the two-day AI event and follow up information, sustaining the plan.
